A family or an individual can find themselves with out food through no fault of their own.
Community Food Bank
The Community Food Bank provides food for families and individuals in crisis. We work in
partnership with Food manufacturers, food wholesalers, churches, schools, businesses,
supermarkets, drug stores, and individuals to run food drives and collections. Together
we can help secure a brighter, healthier future for communities of disadvantaged Filipinos.
The Community Food Bank is operational in the Philippines but supporters outside of the
Philippines send food donations through containers and the balikyban or box delivery.
We have learnt that poverty is the main cause of hunger and persists under conditions
where people are undervalued and paid below the minimum wage, and where possessions and
land are overvalued. The poor remain poor and are often just one step away from crisis
because they have no assets, no land, no valuable possessions, no technical skills and
often no formal education. In the areas where we work, the only assets they possess
are their time and their labor, and the most they can expect is casual work earning
often far below the minimum wage.
We assess each family for eligibility and ask for a counterpart arrangement so that the
beneficiaries help in the packing and distribution of food within their own community.
The Food Bank is managed by PCF's own welfare and community services department and
works closely with the local community leaders and Barangay to ensure that excellent
community relations are maintained.
The Community Food Bank collects fortified foods, canned, packet, and dried foods.
Each food parcel given contains enough food for one week per person and is high
in nutritional value and content.
Our welfare team give advice and seminars on health, nutrition and hygiene so that when
the family has moved from crisis they can make healthy choices as they plan the daily meal.
If you would like to conduct a food drive for PCF please see the suggested foods items that you can collect.
