Children are selected from among the poorest of the poor families. Hundreds of our children have been working an 8 hour day collecting small pieces of plastic and metal from open dump sites and squatter camps in cemeteries. Their families are unable to provide for even their own basic needs, making children bear the full weight of adulthood on their shoulders. Children as young as 5 years of age understand that if they don't work, they don't eat and if they can't eat, they could die! The children are amazing, coping every day with unimaginable hard ship. They demonstrate such strength of character and truly understand that with the love of their family and the support from their sponsors they can have the future that they always dreamed of.
