PCF has found that it has been necessary to provide
daily hot meals for most weeks of the year to its school children. Many of the children
have stopped working to come to PCF's schools and often the only meal they will
receive each day is in school.
Breakfast and lunch are served daily during school time, and for the most malnourished school students an additional
meal is provided when funding is available. PCF also provides a weekly food parcel based on the students academic achievements,
attendance and class behaviour.
Our menus have been designed to include a high protein diet and fresh vegetables and fruit
are provided as a natural source of vital vitamins and minerals. Children who are suffering
from vitamin deficiency are given vitamin supplements and Vitamin A as standard. Our focus
is to teach and cultivate healthy eating habits.
PCF provides well equipped medical clinics in the dumpsite and cemetery schools. In 2009 18,000 patients received
medical treatment, and 50 local women were trained as health workers as an extension of the PCF Health Services.
In each of these our nurses run free medical clinics every day for our school children, parents, and the community.
Doctors work on a pro-bono basis. Funds are always needed to provide medicines and in some cases operations and
hospitalisation.
