First, we want to say a huge thanks to all those who have donated to support our ongoing emergency relief efforts following Typhoon Goni. Your donations made such a difference and enabled us to provide food parcels and much-needed repairs. Just as our efforts were getting underway the unthinkable happened another typhoon hit!
In the last two and half weeks, the Philippines has sustained three typhoons, the latest one locally known as Typhoon Ulysses hit Metro Manila the hardest, floods rose so high in some parts families were stranded on rooftops and in the areas where we work, houses that are made of wood absorbed so much water their walls collapsed, over 103 roofs have been torn from our families shanties and every day more families contact us for help.
Our maintenance team assesses and verifies each family’s home and sends a request for replacement corrugated metal to replace the roofs and new wood coated with a waterproof sealant to replace walls. Families again are reliant on PCF to provide food and water as they are unable to work. The floodwaters are filthy and spread water-borne diseases and our clinic is preparing for a new intake of patients who are sick. Our rural areas have been hit the hardest and many are staying in evacuation centers but the governments depleted funds are unable to feed the evacuees.
Please help and SHARE if you can – no donation is too small and we are desperate to get families rehoused before Christmas.
